About Marina Kim
Marina Kim is a painter and printmaker specialising in portraiture. She comes from a culturally, politically and ethnically mixed background.
Marina was born in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Uzbekistan, when the Soviet empire was at it’s height. When perestroika came about, soon followed by a complete collapse of the established system, she was 16.
In the atmosphere of the economic hardship and political uncertainty which raged over the soviet conglomerate, many people felt lost and bitter. Others, especially younger generation, embraced the new freedom and opportunities.
Marina spent her formative years during this period of great change and she says, she wouldn’t have it any other way. “It made me realise my adaptability and trust in my creative power. Most importantly, I now have it engraved in my psyche, that losing everything and having familiar world crumble around you is a good thing. Eventually.”
Now Marina is a successful art gallery proprietor and portrait painter. Her artworks are held in many private collections around the world.
